OCR: The Summer Palace The Summer Palace, located in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing, is one of the largest imperial gardens. Formerly named as Garden of Clear Ripples (Qingyiyuan), the palace was burned by the allied armies of France and Britain in 1860. It was rebuilt by Empress Dowager Cixi who diverted an enormous amount of money on it from funds appropriated for building a Chinese navy . The Kunming Lake at the foot of Longevity Hill (Wanshoushan) is the focal point of the garden. Other scenic spots include the Garden of Harmonious Interest (Xiequyuan), the Long Corridor, the MarbleBoat, the Cloud-dispelling Hall (Paiyundian), the Lake of Wisdom(Zhihuihai), the Seventeen-Arch Marble Bridge, and the Jade Belt Bridge (Yudaiqiao).
